ESPN news: “His ceiling tied to how much he can expand his game as a handler.”
Reed Sheppard, a guard for Kentucky, was invited to the NBA Draft Green Room because he anticipated being selected in the first five picks.
As a freshman at Kentucky, Reed Sheppard made a big impression far sooner than scouts and rival coaches had anticipated.
Sheppard averaged 12.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 52.1 percent from three-point range per game while starting just five games. Last year, he hit 75 threes.
The NBA found his play, and especially his shooting ability, to be very intriguing.
This mystery materialized on Tuesday when Sheppard was invited to the NBA Draft Green Room, which is usually reserved for lottery picks and the top projected picks in the NBA Draft.
In mock drafts, Sheppard’s name has appeared anywhere from No. 1 overall to No. 8—at the bottom. He has often been quite reliable in the three to five area.
According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony,’several’ NBA teams have rated Sheppard as their top available prospect after the final month of workouts at the NBA Draft Combine.
Where does Sheppard fit in the best? Everyone has an opinion, and we will know in a few weeks which team believes he best suits their system.
This past week, ESPN Draft expert Jeremy Woo stated, “His ceiling tied to how much he can expand his game as a handler.” “His ability to space the floor away from the ball simplifies his path into a role quite a bit.” “But there’s a very legitimate shooting profile here that could also see him become more of an off-ball threat if needed.”
The dates of the NBA Draft are June 26–27.
