247Sports news: UNC Basketball formally enters the competition for the four-star combo guard in the Class of 2025.
The UNC basketball program has been very active in offering standout players in the Class of 2025 scholarships.
The UNC basketball team has not spent any time in making a few scholarship offers to some emerging talent, indicating that the class of 2025 is the one to watch.
Derek Dixon was one of the student-athletes that received an offer from the Tar Heels following this weekend’s open recruiting period.
Dixon is a Washington, D.C.-born combo guard with four stars. According to 247Sports Composite, he is presently rated as the No. 64 overall prospect in the Class of 2025 and the No. 2 overall player in his home state.
Dixon was being watched by the Tar Heels coaching staff this past weekend, as David Sisk revealed that Hubert Davis was in Indianapolis to watch him play for his AAU squad, Team Takeover.
Nobody should be surprised that the UNC basketball team has made an offer given his early EYBL stats. The 6-foot-3 guard is shooting the ball at a scorching 60.4% rate from the field and is averaging 16 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.8 rebounds through 10 games. In addition, he has been making outstanding three-pointers, burying 57.5% of his tries so far.
There are other schools participating, particularly in the ACC; Dixon presently has offers from Iowa, Kansas State, Miami, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia, and Virginia Tech, among others. Dixon has already made official visits to Pittsburgh and Virginia as part of his recruiting, so the Tar Heels may have some catching up to do in this area.
Over the coming months, there will be a lot of talk about the Class of 2025 because the UNC basketball team has identified a number of prospects they think would fit in well with the program. Now that his recruiting is heating up, UNC basketball fans should keep a watch on Derek Dixon.
