Breaking news: Former Husker and Super Bowl winner, is enraged about Ty Robinson joining the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles select DT Ty Robinson with the No. 111 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft

This offseason, Cam Jurgens, a former Husker and Super Bowl winner, returned to Nebraska’s football program. The Eagle center reconnected with an old buddy, Ty Robinson, who playfully asked for a favor.

On Saturday, Robinson remarked, “Make sure you put in a good word for me.” Jurgens guaranteed he would.

The two will now compete in practice every day.

The Eagles picked Robinson, who attended NU for six seasons, with the 111th overall choice in the fourth round. He was one of two Huskers taken in the 2025 NFL Draft, along with tight end Thomas Fidone, who was selected by the Giants in the seventh round.

At Nebraska, the 6-foot-5, 288-pound Robinson recorded 12 career sacks while starting 47 games. His draft stock was boosted by his incredible 40-yard dash time of 4.83 seconds at the NFL Combine. And maybe a word from Jurgens helped, too.

In the Eagles’ virtual media interview, Robinson stated, “I’m really excited to be back playing with him and going against him in practice every day.”

An Eagles fan told Jurgens, who inked a long-term contract with the team last month, that Robinson had been picked when he was on stage at an event in Ocean City, New Jersey.

He exclaimed, “Let’s go, let’s go, Go Big Red!” in a video that was uploaded on X. “I need to text him immediately.”

Jurgens did just that.

Robinson joins one of the top young defensive lines in the NFL, with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, who are one month and one year older than Robinson.

“Watching the Super Bowl, just to see how dominant they were in the game, you saw how they basically took over the game and controlled it,” Robinson said of the Eagles’ line, who regularly pressed Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “I can’t wait to enter the room, get to know the guys, gain their respect, and see how I mesh with them.”

Since the 2020 draft selection of twins Carlos and Khalil Davis, Robinson is the first Husker defensive lineman to be chosen in the NFL Draft. Ochaun Mathis, a defensive end, was chosen in the 2023 draft.

The New York Giants selected Fidone with the 219th overall pick in the seventh round, making him the first true Husker tight end selected in the draft since Tracey Wistrom in 2002. Fidone started for two seasons and had 61 catches for 633 yards and four touchdowns after overcoming two torn knee ligaments. “He’s an unbelievably freaky athlete,” said Husker coach Matt Rhule, who encouraged Fidone to enter the draft despite having already experienced the two knee injuries. Fidone joins a young tight end room where only one player has been in the NFL for more than four years. Penn State grad Theo Johnson led Giants tight ends last season with 29 catches for 331 yards.

Fox Sports reports that two former Huskers, linebacker John Bullock and center Ben Scott, had signed contracts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night while several others were still deciding their free agency options.
