Breaking news: Eagles Finalize Deal on First-Round Draft Pick.
Jahan Dotson has a player option, but the Philadelphia Eagles have chosen not to exercise it.
The Philadelphia Eagles traded for former Washington Commanders’ first-round selection Jahan Dotson in August, but he did not exactly turn out as the franchise anticipated he would.
According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, the organization has thus chosen to reject the wide receiver’s player option. This implies that after the 2025 season, Dotson will be a free agent.
The Commanders selected Dotson with the No. 16 choice in the 2022 NFL Draft because many believed he might be one of the top young receivers in the league after graduating from Penn State. His career is not off to the start he would have hoped for, but he is by no means a bust yet.
Dotson only started six games during the 2024 season with the Eagles and caught 19 passes for 216 yards and no touchdowns. It’s not exactly fantastic news for a wide receiver that he had less yards than star running back Saquon Barkley.
In theory, Dotson will still be a reliable wide receiver in 2025, along with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but the club may choose to take a different approach after then.
The possibility of selecting a young receiver in the next NFL Draft is one method they may do it.
With eight selections in the first five rounds of the draft, the Eagles may choose to select a young receiver who is less expensive than Dotson.
