Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott Announces 'Vital' Claim As Running Quarterback - Athlon Sports

The expectations for the 2025 season are identical for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys. Pittsburgh needs to secure their quarterback position, while Dallas needs Prescott to remain healthy. Both teams anticipate at least a postseason spot if they can do that.

But before the season begins, are the two teams thinking about making a big trade?

Cowboys-Steelers Suddenly Captivated by High-Level Trade Discussions

In the 2025 NFL Draft, former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert suggested trading quarterback Dak Prescott and the No. 12 selection for T.J. Watt and the No. 21 pick:

T.J. Watt: Steelers star's social media post sparks trade speculation

“Who says no to a trade of TJ Watt for Dak Prescott and a first-round pick? Steelers acquire a quarterback without signing a contract and receive selection #12. The Cowboys get to see what Milton can accomplish after selecting him with Pick #21 and Watt. Benkert tweeted, “They would have the NFL’s best defensive line and would give them a real chance in the NFC East.”

The Steelers would move up in the draft and acquire a competent quarterback with this idea, but they would also have to give up their finest defensive player. They have stated time and time again that they want to keep him and don’t want to move him.

It’s entertaining to make ridiculous season swap suggestions, but it doesn’t seem probable that either party will accept this one. The Steelers want to retain Watt a Steeler for the remainder of his career, while the Cowboys are going with Prescott for the 2025 campaign.
