Breaking news: Former New York Yankees All-Star Set to Join the Dodgers Superteam in a Blockbuster Trade.
Following their World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the New York Yankees let two-time All-Star Gleyber Torres to become free agency. While the Dodgers kept adding superstars to their roster, Torres signed with the Detroit Tigers. The Dodgers could need a second baseman despite having all of their studs. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report, however, believes Torres may be the Dodgers’ answer. Given Tommy Edman’s flexibility, the Dodgers may potentially pursue a center fielder, but Miller believes adding a second baseman would make more sense.
Torres hit.257,.330, and.378 with the Yankees the previous season. He was 3-for-7 at the beginning of this season before being placed on the disabled list. But according to reports, he is getting closer to making a comeback and has begun to intensify his hitting regimen. Second base would be a suitable position for Torres. Edman would therefore be able to take Andy Pages’ job in center field, where he has been struggling. But Hyeseong Kim could have issues as a result. Kim was signed by the Dodgers from the Korean Baseball Organization to a three-year contract worth $12.5 million. Despite being at Triple-A right now, he is hitting the ball nicely.
Whenever the Dodgers are ready to bring up Kim, he could play in a utility position if they deal for Torres. Torres might be the missing component for Los Angeles to win back-to-back championships since he has a lot more major league experience.
With Kim as a utility player, the Dodgers would probably have an infield consisting of Max Muncy, Mookie Betts, Torres, and Freddie Freeman after acquiring Torres. Edman, Michael Confort, and Teoscar Hernández would be in the outfield.
