Sources: Stanford has announced that it will hire veteran NFL coach Frank Reich as its interim football coach for the 2025 season. Both parties have agreed that this will only be a one-season agreement, and Stanford will then conduct a nationwide search. pic.twitter.com/21NuVUCjjt — Pete Thamel (@PeteThamel) March 31, 2025 Stanford Hires Frank Reich as Interim Head Coach in 2025 The 63-year-old Reich has 17 years of NFL coaching experience in addition to a 13-year playing career. While serving as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, Reich had both a successful and a terrible season. In 2016, Philadelphia had one of the worst offenses, ranking 11th in rushing offense with 1,813 yards and 24th in passing offense with 3,798 yards.

The Eagles offense was much better in 2017, ranking third in running with 2,115 yards and 14th in passing with 3,967 yards. Reich was able to guide the Eagles to a Super Bowl triumph because to this offensive production. He thus won a position as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

Reich finished his five and a half seasons with the Colts with a 40-33-1 winning record. Reich only had one losing season with Indianapolis (7-9) in 2019 before being let go following Week 9 of 2022 (3-5-1).

Reich took over as head coach of the Carolina Panthers in 2023 after being sacked by the Colts. After leading the Panthers to a 1-10 record in the first 12 weeks, the 63-year-old was let go. Reich’s Panthers were a dismal failure, but considering how lacking in skill they were, it wasn’t all his fault.

Reich brings significant experience to Stanford even though he ended his NFL head coaching career with a 41-43-1 losing record. It may prove to be a wise short-term decision to hire him. However, Eagles supporters will always support Reich since he helped the team win its first Super Bowl, regardless of the outcome.
