This offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers have been savoring every moment of their 2024 World Series victory, but it should come as no surprise that the manager of the New York Yankees, who finished second, is a little annoyed by the constant festivities.

Not only was it the five-game Fall Classic, but the Yankees needed only one out to finish the nightmare stretch after blowing a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning of a crucial Game 5. New York’s subsequent defensive blunders and Los Angeles’ tenacity made the Dodgers the winners that evening.

In addition to having to cope with hearing about his team’s deficiencies over the summer, manager Aaron Boone talked about his team’s second-place finish on FS1’s Breakfast Ball show.

“I’m not sure. We didn’t play to our full potential and kind of watched on as they defeated us. They are therefore free to say whatever they choose. I’ll state that I find it bothersome. I believe that irritated a few men. But ultimately, we must improve as a team and be the one standing if we don’t want to hear it.

Boone was right when he said that it may be “annoying” to witness a club rejoice in the way the Dodgers did following such a crushing loss for New York. The captain gave an honest response on what this means for the Yankees when asked if it will serve as incentive for the club.

Regarding motivation, I have no idea. I don’t think we should be motivated by it if you need it to get you through a 162-game season. We should strive to be the best versions of ourselves. To begin that, you go to Spring Training. perhaps, we can return there, get through this period, and perhaps have some more polite remarks when we do.

It makes sense for him to conclude his remarks with a cliched dig at the Dodgers, but given how many defensive errors the Yankees made on the largest stage in baseball, it would be hard for a team to avoid reacting as players and supporters did.

Only time will tell who controls the offseason remarks after October, when 2025 has officially begun.
