CBS Sports: Lions Sensational Wide Receiver Sign a Mega Deal With Jets.
Alongside Aaron Glenn and Tanner Engstrand, the pass game coordinator, he played for Detroit for more than two seasons.
Josh Reynolds, a free agency wide receiver, has joined the Jets.
Reynolds, who turned 30 in February, has a decent sense of what offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand and head coach Aaron Glenn would want in the Jets’ scheme. Before joining the Jets in 1991, he spent three seasons playing at Glenn’s college, Texas A&M. Additionally, from 2021–2023 he played 2 1/2 seasons (38 games, 29 starts) for Detroit, where he collaborated with defensive coordinator Glenn and Engstrand, who was then the Lions’ passing game coordinator.
Reynolds (6-3 196) was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round (117th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft. After spending his first four seasons in Los Angeles, he enjoyed his best season as a professional in 2020, setting career highs with 81 targets, 52 catches, and 618 yards.
He relocated to Tennessee in 2021, and Detroit acquired him on waivers in the middle of the season. throughout his time with the Lions, he averaged 16.1 yards per grab, recorded five touchdown receptions in 2023, and scored 10 total touchdowns throughout his time with Detroit. He had excellent blocking abilities from his wide receiver position as well.
Reynolds signed with Denver after entering free agency last year, but after five games, he was waived and signed by Jacksonville. He finished the season with four games for the Jaguars.
During his eight-year career, Reynolds has caught 233 passes for 3,127 yards (13.4 yards per reception) and 20 touchdowns in 116 regular-season games (55 starts). In nine postseason games, he has also caught 19 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown. He has three two-touchdown performances to his name, including two for the Rams in ’18 and one for the Lions against Seattle last season. His career game bests are eight receptions (Rams vs. Seattle in ’20) and 96 yards (Lions against Minnesota in ’22).
As a member of five different teams, Reynolds has participated in five tight games against the Jets while playing for the Rams in 2020 (23-20, Jets), Titans in 2021 (27-24 in overtime, Jets), Lions in 2022 (20-17, Lions), and Broncos in September (10-9) and Jaguars in December (32-25). He will now have an opportunity to prove himself in his attempt to join the Jets’ squad and help the Green & White win several games by a single score in 2025.
