Buffalo Bills restructure Rasul Douglas contract to open up 2024 cap space - Buffalo Rumblings

The Detroit Lions have been busy at the cornerback position this offseason. In just the couple of weeks since free agency opened, they’ve already added three veterans to their roster.

It started with D.J. Reed, who they brought in to replace Carlton Davis as their CB1. Then they added former 49ers corner Rock Ya-Sin for some depth at the position. Next came Avonte Maddox, who will join the rotation in the slot. Despite all of these moves and the fact that the Lions spent their first two picks in last year’s draft on corners, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks they still might not be done adding at the position.

In an article discussing best fits for some of the remaining players in this year’s free agent class, Knox named the Lions as a top fit for former Buffalo Bills corner Rasul Douglas.

Saints Not Among 'Best Fits' For $35 Million Free Agent Target

Douglas would be a more notable name than the Lions’ last two corner signings, but also comes with a major concern. The 2024 season was the worst of his career. In 15 games for the Bills, Douglas allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 72.9% of the passes they threw in his direction. Those QBs racked up a passer rating of 122.0 on those throws. His struggles came as a surprise after he had a strong finish to the 2023 season. In nine 2023 games with the Bills, he only allowed a completion percentage of 51.3% and limited opposing QBs to 5.9 yards per target.

If the Lions believe he could get back to that level, maybe they would bring him in to compete for a spot in their corner rotation, but it seems less likely they’d take that chance now that the corner position is so crowded on their roster.
