Welcome to the Juan Soto era of Mets baseball

Juan Soto’s free agency sweepstakes this winter was the biggest story, even though the offseason is almost over and the MLB regular season schedule is about to start. Soto’s decision to leave an already very competitive team for another was lost in the lengthy process that saw him sign a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets after leaving the New York Yankees.

Indeed, the most significant aspect was undoubtedly the genuine free agency offers. However, we are referring to the Yankees here. Would they truly object to matching their cross-town competitors’ offer? Something else has to be at play.

Long-term worries about the New York Yankees plagued Juan Soto.

The New York Yankees are unable to stop the New York Mets from acquiring Juan Soto at this point. Everything is in the past.

However, Soto recently acknowledged in an interview with Sports Illustrated that the Yankees were his first option when it came to signing a contract. However, after taking into account every aspect of his several proposals, questions were raised regarding the Yankees’ long-term viability in comparison to the Mets, who were able to spend freely.

Yankees catch shade from Juan Soto...again

“From day one, the Yankees were the best. It simply came down to that choice, you know, given how lengthy this deal is going to be. What does the agricultural system have? On this squad, how many times can we be good? For the next five or six years, I am confident that the Yankees will be successful. After that, we’re not certain.

Last season, the Yankees, not the Mets, made it to the World Series. Soto claims he “gives him all my trust,” demonstrating his complete faith in Mets owner Steve Cohen. Over the course of the next ten or so years, we will have the opportunity to witness if Soto’s choice is successful, although in a Mets outfit rather than the Yankees’ pinstripes.
