NFL Insider Adam Schefter said that the starting linebacker for the Falcons has signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans. After playing for the Atlanta Falcons for the previous three seasons, Lorenzo Carter is currently a member of the Titans. Over 47 games (29 starts), the 29-year-old recorded 125 tackles (76 solo), seven sacks, 23 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, and one interception. As was to be expected given that the Falcons had already signed Leonard Floyd and Divine Deablo, Carter has remained at home throughout the free agency period without being signed by Atlanta.
With the losses of defensive end Grady Jarrett and linebacker Nate Landman, among others, the Falcons have invested countless hours strengthening their defense. Carter was a pleasant sight in Atlanta after being selected in the third round from the University of Georgia. Supporters adore seeing the school’s own athletes wearing Atlanta uniforms. He was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft and joined the league as a member of the New York Giants.
Carter has amassed 170 solo tackles, 21.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles since joining the league. During free agency, the Titans are also considering the defensive end of the ball. Since the start of free agency, this will be their ninth signing.
During the 2024–25 season, Tennessee struggled to stop the run and gave up 27.1 points per game, which put them in 30th place in the NFL. Carter is all too familiar with this sentiment given the defense’s lackluster performance in Atlanta over the previous few years. Carter will try to cover the voids in the Tennessee Titans defense’s second level after receiving a poor grade at the position the previous season.
