The starting rotation of the New York Yankees has had several serious injuries. Luis Gil will lose time due to a lat issue, while Gerrit Cole will be out for the whole season following Tommy John surgery. A player like Dylan Cease, Sandy Alcántara, Luis Castillo, or Michael King could be too expensive for the Yankees to afford. But they might be able to add a good arm from the San Francisco Giants to the mix. Nick San Miguel of FanSided suggested the following deal, which would send Jordan Hicks to the Yankees: Jordan Hicks, a right-handed pitcher, joins the Yankees.

Tim Hill, a left-handed pitcher, joins the Giants This summer, Hill was re-signed by the Yankees to a one-year contract worth $2.8 million. A $3 million club option for 2027 is part of his contract. One of the Yankees’ dependable southpaws would be leaving. “In return, New York would be getting an electric, if sometimes unruly, arm who has flashed potential as a starter,” San Miguel said. “It is a move that could be beneficial for both sides if executed.”

Last year, Hicks agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract with the Giants. Last season, he made 20 starts and made nine appearances as a reliever. His career ERA was 4.10, however as a starter, it was somewhat lower than as a relief pitcher. He may be traded by the Giants in order to cover a bullpen need.

“After the Giants traded away left-handed reliever Taylor Rogers, they created an opening for a lefty reliever in the bullpen alongside Erik Miller,” San Miguel said. “There is no guarantee the Giants will carry two left-handed relievers, but if manager Bob Melvin thinks that is a necessity, then having the veteran Tim Hill on the team could be a wise move.” Opening day for the Yankees is less than two weeks away. They could just hold out on adding a starter until the trade deadline, but doing so would put them at risk of dropping too far in the American League standings.
