ESPN: In a blockbuster trade, the Yankees are favored to get a Cy Young Superstar for $56 million.

Gerrit Cole, the right-hander for the New York Yankees, just had surgery to repair a problem with his throwing elbow, ending his season. The Bronx Bombers may try to make a big deal to obtain a starter, but the Yankees will now try to replace Cole with Marcus Stroman and prospect Will Warren. The Yankees are the front-runners to acquire former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcántara in a blockbuster deal, according to Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report. Rymer’s whole offer to transfer the ace to the Bronx is as follows:
RHP Sandy Alcántara is acquired by the New York Yankees. Miami The Marlins get: OF The number two prospect, Spencer Jones, SS No. 3 prospect George Lombard Jr. and No. 5 prospect RHP Will Warren “You can’t lose Gerrit Cole for the year because of Tommy John surgery and Luis Gil for three months because of a lat strain and act like everything is okay,” Rymer said. “Those two injuries have turned New York’s rotation from one of MLB’s finest to one of its worst, as Eno Sarris chronicled for The Athletic.
“In the end, these Yankees have more motivation to swing big than any other club. They risk falling far shorter this year if they don’t get on a swing like that, having missed out on a World Series victory in 2024 by three victories. This seems like a little too much to give up in order to get the righty, even though the Yankees may have the most desire to negotiate a big trade for him. As it is, New York’s agricultural system isn’t very good. It would be a devastating blow to the system to trade three of its best prospects for Alcántara.
The Marlins could even be interested in acquiring another young player. As startling as it seems, it won’t be simple to trade for the Miami ace, and it’s possible that this package won’t be sufficient to close a deal.
