Yankees' Oswaldo Cabrera has surprised early, but has a long way to go - Pinstripe Alley

When it was revealed earlier this week that Gerrit Cole will miss the whole 2025 season due to Tommy John surgery, the New York Yankees were devastated. The Los Angeles Dodgers are a fascinating trade partner because of their depth in pitching and skill. That makes one wonder if they have anyone on hand who could support New York’s starting lineup. The Yankees lost to the Dodgers in five games, advancing to the World Series for the first time since 2009. By acquiring another dependable pitcher, they could maintain their competitiveness despite the difficult injury setback prior to the 2025 season.

Tony Gonsolin, who is presently battling a back injury, is one possible target. Given that their rotation is already set, the Dodgers may think about trading him once he is healthy. When Shohei Ohtani returns to the mound, likely in May, Los Angeles will have five established starters who are unlikely to be moved. A probable trade package could send infielder Oswaldo Cabrera and right-handed prospect Will Warren to Los Angeles. New York has numerous top-tier prospects they are loath to trade with, but Gonsolin would give an immediate boost to the rotation. Cabrera has also had difficulty making a name for himself in the major leagues.

In addition to providing the Dodgers with excellent assets, this transaction would solve the Yankees’ pitching depth. Justin Wrobleski and Landon Knack, two younger pitchers, may potentially be available. Both have demonstrated their ability to compete at the top level and have MLB experience.
