Breaking news: The Yankees make a sharp move acquire a $56 million pitcher who is a two-time All-Star.
Luis Gil is officially sidelined for at least three months and has not yet been replaced by the New York Yankees. Marcus Stroman will take the last position in the rotation in the interim. The Yankees, however, have made it apparent that they want to let go of the 33-year-old pitcher. The Yankees might acquire Sandy Alcántara from the Miami Marlins, giving them the best of all worlds.
Alcántara last pitched for the Marlins in 2023, with a 4.14 ERA in 28 starts. But the year before, he won his first National League Cy Young Award with 32 starts and a 2.28 ERA. Alcántara’s average bWAR over the past three seasons has been 5.2. The Yankees would be wise to trade for Alcántara. Along with Carlos RodĂłn and Gerrit Cole, it establishes another strong arm at the top of the rotation. Stroman would provide the Marlins a major-league pitcher in exchange, allowing the Yankees to part ways with him as well.
This is how a deal may appear: The New York Yankees get: SP Sandy Alcántara The Miami Marlins purchase: SP Will Warren (Yankees No. 5 prospect), Marcus Stroman, RHP Everson Pereira, the 14th-ranked prospect for the Yankees Alcántara will cost a much to acquire since he has three years of team control, including 2025. With this trade, the Marlins would get Will Warren, a young pitcher who could advance in the rotation without as much pressure. In 2024, he started five games for the Yankees.
Another player now prohibited by the Yankees organization would be Everson Pereira, who would join Warren in Miami. When he hit.151 in 93 at-bats in 2024, the Marlins decided to give him an opportunity to improve as a hitter. One of the best teams in the American League is the Yankees. They would be a contender for the World Series if they added Alcántara.
