Aaron Boone Hopes Yankees Act With 'More Class' Than Dodgers If They Win 2025 Title

Ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball season, the New York Yankees are eager to extend Aaron Boone’s contract.

The defending American League champions are prepared to make an exception for Boone, despite Hal Steinbrenner’s preference to wait for contracts to expire rather than committing to extensions in advance.

General manager Brian Cashman told reporters Friday that he and Steinbrenner have been discussing Boone’s deal.

Cashman seemed hopeful about securing a deal this spring, since the manager was set to reach the last year of his contract.

At the Grapefruit League media day at LECOM Park, Cashman stated, “We picked up his option last year, but that’s not our intent — our intent is to find an extension, so certainly I’ve been working through that and Hal Steinbrenner has been working through that with Aaron Boone.”

We’re hoping that we’ll be able to formally solidify something sooner rather than later. However, it’s clear that I haven’t arrived yet,” he added.

“Give us some time.” We have spent the whole winter concentrating on roster creation and a few other things that we are only now beginning to address.

“However, we want to ensure that Aaron Boone stays with the Yankees after the 2025 season.”

Boone’s initial contract with the Yankees was allowed to expire before he re-signed following the 2021 campaign.

Boone’s contract included a 2025 club option, which the Bronx Bombers selected in November following their World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They are guaranteeing a long-term collaboration with the manager in spite of the loss.

Boone has previously confirmed the discussions about prolonging his stay with the Yankees, but he made no comments on the matter on Friday.

Boone stated on Tuesday, “The truth is that I’m really excited to be here today and to start working for this organization and for Hal that hopefully something does work out.”
