Breaking news: Gleyber Torres brutally respond to Brian Cashman assertion….

Amid brutal start, Yankees' Gleyber Torres says looming free agency isn't on his mind - The Athletic

What is the opinion of Gleyber Torres about the assertions made by Brian Cashman?

Poor defense was a major factor in the New York Yankees’ World Series loss. According to Baseball Savant, Gleyber Torres was a major contributor to that, ranking 31st among second basemen in outs over average. Torres was requested to switch to third base by Brian Cashman when he traded for Jazz Chisholm Jr. Torres responded on social media last week after Cashman made that revelation.

Torres acknowledged that he was asked to leave second base by the Yankees. He just advises Cashman to put the incident behind him and concentrate on his present group. Coincidentally, Cashman hasn’t tried to cover Torres’ infield void. Aaron Boone did, however, state that Chisholm will begin Spring Training at second base.

Torres’ seven-year tenure with the Yankees came to an end when he signed with the Detroit Tigers. A strong season might earn him a big free-agent contract the next season, as he signed a one-year contract. However, he was only able to sign a one-year contract following a terrible season on both the offensive and defensive ends. According to reports, Torres is a second baseman, but other organizations requested him to switch positions.

Torres was highly anticipated when he joined the Yankees in 2016. He was the main component of the Aroldis Chapman deal and the best prospect in the Chicago Cubs’ organization. Cashman believed Torres, a shortstop prospect, was his long-term replacement for Derek Jeter. He started the 2020 season as a second baseman before switching to shortstop. He labored in second place after a vicious run there.

His offense was a problem for the majority of the season, but Torres took over as the Yankees’ lead-off hitter in the closing days. He was striking. Before the All-Star Break, he had 231 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs. After that, in 30 fewer games, he hit.292 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs. The Tigers are placing a wager that Torres can replicate that second half.

On the whole right side of the field, the Yankees’ defense was lacking. With Torres, Juan Soto, and a first baseman rotation, the defense was not the team’s first emphasis. At first, second, and right field, Paul Goldschmidt, Aaron Judge, and Jazz Chisolm Jr. make a far superior trio.
