BREAKING NEWS: The Red Sox sign $71 million standout starting pitcher from the San Diego Padres .
According to reports, the San Diego Padres are considering trade offers for Michael King, their standout starting pitcher. Although King had a strong finish to the previous season, he will be hitting free agency after the 2025 season, and the Padres probably won’t have the funds to re-sign him. Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report recently predicted that the Boston Red Sox will be among the top ten clubs vying for King’s services this winter.
“With ace potential, the Red Sox have already added two starters in Crochet and Buehler. However, Rymer noted that they were prominently connected to Dylan Cease in December and would yet be amenable to adding an arm. However, the Cease link was revealed before the Crochet transfer. The easiest approach to take advantage of Boston’s abundance of hitting potential would be to trade for a young, controllable impact pitcher. King is neither. King may still make a lot of sense even though he doesn’t meet Rymer’s recommendation that the Red Sox go for a young, controlled pitcher.
First of all, the righty is highly gifted. Toward the end of the previous season, he established himself as one of the best right-handed pitchers in the league. It would be quite simple to get King into the Red Sox rotation alongside Garrett Crochet.
When he becomes a free agent, Boston will also have the funds to re-sign him. When King enters free agency, Spotrac estimates his value to be $71 million over four years, a sum the Red Sox could easily provide him.
