CBS Sports: The Jets appoint Lions defensive coordinator as the new head coach.
Their largest gaps have been filled by the Patriots’ division opponents.
There are other AFC East teams choosing new head coaches this offseason besides the New England Patriots. The New York Jets are in a similar situation and announced on Thursday that Aaron Glenn, the former defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, will be joining them in New York City.
The Jets organization is familiar with Glenn, who earlier this month turned down an interview for the head coaching position that was eventually awarded to Mike Vrabel for the Patriots. After being chosen by the club in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft, the 52-year-old was chosen for the team’s Four Decade club in 2003.
Later, before becoming a coach, Glenn rejoined the team as a scout. Before becoming the Lions DC in 2021, he began his career in Cleveland and New Orleans. After three seasons at the position, he will be returning with the Jets for a third time.
In addition to Glenn, the squad has appointed a new general manager. Darren Mougey, who formerly worked as the Denver Broncos’ assistant GM, was hired on Saturday. Mougey has worked in a variety of managerial and administrative capacities in Denver for the past 13 years.
