Yankees lose reliever Ron Marinaccio to new team on waivers - nj.com

Ron Marinaccio is moving about once more.

The White Sox assigned the native of Toms River, New Jersey, on Tuesday. Chicago was able to create place for left-hander Martín Pérez, whose one-year, $5 million contract was formally disclosed, thanks to this move.

Growing up, Marinaccio was a Yankees fan. In 2017, the Yankees selected him in the 19th round. During his three subsequent stints in the Bronx, he recorded a lifetime 3.22 ERA in 101 appearances, striking out 137 batters in 114 2/3 innings.

After making his debut in 2022, Marinaccio showed promise in pinstripes, recording a 2.05 ERA in 40 bullpen appearances.

Why the Yankees should be ecstatic about Ron Marinaccio heading into 2023

He had a 3.99 ERA over 45 games in 2023, when his stats declined. He has only made 16 appearances in a Yankees uniform this season after spending the most of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. During his 35 appearances with the RailRiders, he recorded a 2.04 ERA and a 3.86 ERA with the Yankees.

In order to create room for right-hander Cody Poteet’s return to the 40-man roster following an extended period on the 60-day disabled list, the Yankees DFA’d Marinaccio in September of last year. Shortly later, the White Sox optioned him to Double-A Birmingham after claiming him off waivers.

Yankees hope Ron Marinaccio's offseason work leads to 2024 rebound

After Marinaccio was fired, Yankees manager Aaron Boone talked about him.

Following Marinaccio’s DFA, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters in Oakland that it was a “very tough call.” Given the current state of our 40-man, I believe they simply believed that this was the appropriate course of action at this particular moment.

“When you have good people like Ron on your roster, it’s always a difficult decision.”
