CBS Sports: The Bills receive good news ahead of Ravens Playoff Game.
In Sunday’s divisional-round game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo Bills might be able to get a vital player back in time.
After sustaining a head injury and being placed in concussion protocol, rookie running back Ray Davis was forced to miss last week’s victory over the Denver Broncos. The Bills may have sent a clear message that the running back is prepared to return to the club, even though they did not make a final decision on his health for Sunday.
Ray Davis Gets a Positive Sign from the Bills
Wide receiver Jalen Virgil and offensive lineman Will Clapp were promoted off the practice squad for Sunday’s game, the Bills announced on Saturday. It was hoped that Davis would be ready to play because the Bills had undrafted rookie Frank Gore Jr. available to be raised as well, but he didn’t bring any further backfield assistance.
In a post on X, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic said, “RB Ray Davis (concussion protocol) has an excellent chance to play Sunday because Frank Gore Jr. is not playing.”
A dynamic addition to the offense, Davis joined the Bills as a fourth-round choice this season and ran for 442 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 17 receptions for 189 yards and three more receiving scores.
With a balanced rushing approach this season, the Bills have used all three running backs. James Cook has over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season and tied the franchise’s all-time record with 16 rushing touchdowns. Ty Johnson, the backup, has also had an effect on the ground and in the air. In addition to making 18 grabs for 284 yards and three more receiving scores, he ran for 213 yards and one touchdown.
With the exception of Davis’ injury, the Bills are mostly healthy, since some of their key players have returned in recent weeks. When the club fell to the Ravens 35-10 earlier this season, they were without three key defensive players: cornerback Taron Johnson, linebackers Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard.
Another Injury Break for the Bills
The Ravens may not be as fortunate as the Bills, who may be on track to have one of their playmakers return to the offense. Wide receiver Zay Flowers was labeled as questionable for Sunday’s game after suffering an injury in the season finale and missing the team’s victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild card round.
Flowers, the club’s top receiver, caught 74 passes for 1,059 yards and four touchdowns this season. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson stated that his team would have a difficult time without Flowers on the field.
According to ESPN, Jackson stated, “He is a guy that has been with us all season long [and has] been making things happen for us.” We will miss the contributions he makes to the game. However, we have men who are committed and prepared to take over for us.
If Flowers is unable to play, the other playmakers on the squad will have to step in, according to Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
“We have a lot of really good players, but if Zay can’t make it, that’s great,” Monken said. “We’re lucky. We expect our talented players to do well since we have many of them.
