As the 2025 regular season draws closer, veteran San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim remains a free agent. Could the 2023 Gold Glove Award winner legitimately end up with the New York Yankees? Kim’s market value for a new deal is $49 million for four years, according to Spotrac. However, it is doubtful that he will achieve those figures given that he is still available on the market this late in the offseason.

Kim’s shoulder ailment caused her 2024 campaign to stop early. Additionally, he won’t be fully recovered from his operation by opening day. The 29-year-old will probably have to make do with a one- or two-year contract. For Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who still needs additional infield depth after Gleyber Torres joined the Detroit Tigers, this may be the ideal chance. According to Deesha Thosar of FOX Sports, Kim will eventually sign with the Bronx Bombers.

“Kim’s high baseball IQ and defensive versatility and prowess would be a breath of fresh air for a Yankees team that ranked 30th in FanGraphs’ baserunning metrics in 2024 and routinely suffered from defensive miscues, poor fundamentals, and mental lapses in the infield (see: the World Series),” said Thosar. “The Yankees don’t need more flashy free-agent signings now; they need a dynamic jack-of-all-trades Gold Glover like Kim who can quietly transform their offensive production.”

Acquiring Kim would likely finalize the offensive overhaul the Yankees’ club has gone through after losing outfielder Juan Soto to the New York Mets. Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger, two previous National League MVP Award winners, were also acquired by the Bombers this winter.
