ESPN: Baseball fans who interfered with Mookie Betts’ performance at the 2024 World Series were banned.
Major League Baseball told two Yankees fans that they would no longer be permitted to attend any MLB games after they took a baseball from an opposition club player’s glove during a play during the 2024 World Series.
Austin Capobianco and John P. Hansen, baseball enthusiasts, were prohibited from going to Major League Baseball games at any ballpark and from any activities sponsored by the league, according to The Associated Press.
On October 29, 2024, the event happened at Yankee Stadium, the Bronx’s home stadium for the New York Yankees. The two men obstructed the play as Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts stretched out and caught the baseball in front of the spectators during the fourth game of the series. One of the spectators grabbed the outfielder with both hands after Betts had obviously caught the ball, and then he removed the ball from his glove. The other man grasped Betts’s bare hand as he did so. This occurred during the contest’s opening inning.
“Due to your actions, Major League Baseball is banning you indefinitely from all MLB stadiums, offices, and other facilities.” “You are also hereby banned indefinitely from attending any events sponsored by or associated with MLB.” “On October 29, 2024, during Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium, you interfered with play by purposefully and forcefully grabbing a player. Your conduct posed a serious risk to the health and safety of the player and went far beyond the line of acceptable fan behavior,” the letter stated. “If you are found at any MLB property or event, you will be removed from the premises and subject to arrest for trespassing”.
Following the play, the two guys were sent off, and they were not allowed to participate in the next game the next night.
