CBS Sports: Another Lions Sensational Star Player Wins The NFL Special Award.

The league announced that Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs earned the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for games played in December and January, following a strong finish to the regular season.

Gibbs led the NFL with nine scrimmage touchdowns, six on the ground, and three receptions in five games during the Lions’ 4-1 run in December and January. He also finished first among running backs in receiving yards (235), seventh in the NFL in scrimmage yards (674), and first in the NFC in scrimmage yards per game (134.8).

Gibbs became the sixth player in NFL history to have 21 games with a touchdown in his first two seasons of play. He joined Pro Football Hall of Famers Maurice Jones-Drew (21), Lions legend Billy Sims (21) and Jonathan Taylor (21) as well as Lions icon Barry Sanders (22 games) and Gale Sayers (21).

With 52 receptions for 517 yards and four touchdowns, 1,412 yards on 250 carries, and 16 running touchdowns in 17 games, Gibbs, one half of Sonic & Knuckles, was a key member of the Lions attack.

The Detroit Lions continue to win trophies after a spectacular season in which they recorded a franchise-best 15-2 record, won the NFC North for the second straight year, and secured a 1-seed in the NFC and its accompanying bye week.

This week, Gibbs and the Lions are off. With the NFL’s reseeding method, the Lions will face the highest seed left among the Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Washington Commanders, and Green Bay Packers. We will find out who the Lions play after this weekend’s Wild Card games. The time and date of the game at Ford Field have not yet been disclosed.
