ESPN: The New York Yankees’ blockbuster trade scenario would be a perfect replacement for Juan Soto.
The offseason has been hectic for the New York Yankees. Paul Goldschmidt and Max Fried were signed. Devin Williams and Cody Bellinger were both acquired through trade. Despite being excellent acquisitions, they failed to get a player of Juan Soto’s level of skill. Fortunately for the Yankees, if contract extension negotiations fail, Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. may become available. Guerrero would become a free agent the following winter if the two parties are unable to reach a consensus. Jacob Mountz of FanSided suggested this deal, which would move Guerrero to the Bronx:
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a first and third baseman, is acquired by the Yankees. The Blue Jays acquire right-handed pitcher Will Warren (ranked fifth), outfielder Everson Pereira (ranked tenth), and outfielder Spencer Jones (ranked two). The Yankees would have to give up Jones, Warren, and Pereira. To persuade the Blue Jays to deal Guerrero inside the American League East, that may be necessary. They would also need to have faith in their capacity to reach a long-term agreement with Guerrero.
The valued player heading to Toronto would be Jones. The Yankees rank the 23-year-old as their second-best outfield prospect and their second overall pick. The Yankees could be willing to let go of Jones since Jasson DomÃnguez appears to be prepared for a larger role in the major leagues.
“His raw power is seen as abundant, but the problem has been making enough contact to demonstrate that power. He smashed the Yankees’ minor league strikeout record this past season,” Mountz said. “On the positive side, his quickness has allowed him to play centerfield rather well and rack up stolen bases at a good clip. He has the ability to become famous if he can establish more contact.
