Announcement: Neil Diamond’s biggest hit marks an impressive comeback.

Neil Diamond, still a solitary man

Throughout his career, Neil Diamond recorded scores of successful singles. The superstar’s music is still quite beloved all over the world, even if he may have retired from most activities owing to health issues. As a result of his continued purchases and streaming, fans have helped him regain a significant position in one of the biggest music markets globally.

This week, “Sweet Caroline” makes a comeback to the UK music chart. The song returns to the top of the country’s all-genre list of the most-listened to songs, peaking at number 55.

Diamond receives the highest returning victory of the week. This time, a single song that wasn’t on the UK charts the previous week managed to rank higher than “Sweet Caroline.” “Tough” by Quavo and Lana Del Rey debuts at number 32 within this time frame.

Neil Diamond Was 'in Denial' of Parkinson's Disease

Despite the tremendous comebacks from three prior hits, Diamond surpasses them all. Even though “Sweet Caroline” has been around for decades, none of the songs that are making a comeback to the U.K. charts this week—You’re Gonna Go Far by Noah Kahan, Vindaloo by Fat Les, and “I Remember Everything” by Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves—can top it.

In the UK, “Sweet Caroline” is Diamond’s longest-charting single. It now has 23 stays somewhere in the song’s total. Every few years, and more recently, the tune adds to that total.

“Sweet Caroline” last made an appearance on the UK music chart in December 2022. It had one spin at No. 89 that year. Since 2021, “Sweet Caroline” has not climbed above No. 55, where it now is. The hit peaked at No. 20 in July of the same year.

When “Sweet Caroline” first appeared on the charts in 1971, Diamond had his second career hit in the United Kingdom. The song reached its climax across the pond at No. 8, only weeks after it debuted.
