CBS Sports: Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes decline signing the former NFL sack master.
The former NFL sack leader Shaq Barrett has decided not to play for the Detroit Lions in their quest for the Super Bowl. Barrett, who was just cut by the Miami Dolphins, has chosen to re-sign with his old team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a report from Rick Stroud.
There was conjecture that the Detroit Lions may try to sign Barrett when he was cut free. Barrett, a successful pass rusher, might have given the Lions’ defense much-needed depth as they aim to go far in the playoffs. It is now certain that Barrett will not be traveling to the Motor City, even if it is unclear if Lions general manager Brad Holmes made an offer to him.
As the Lions continue to pursue the NFC North championship and a possible Super Bowl participation, Barrett’s return to the Buccaneers means they will have to search elsewhere for pass-rushing assistance.
