CBS Sports: The Lions sign veteran receiver to the practice squad.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions announced two roster changes. The organization declared that it had re-signed wide receiver/kick returner Maurice Alexander to its practice squad and dismissed veteran linebacker David Long. After initially playing with the Miami Dolphins this season, Long has been with the Lions for the last five weeks.
The Thanksgiving victory over the Chicago Bears was the only game the 28-year-old started. In addition, he played against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12, the Green Bay Packers in Week 14, and the Buffalo Bills in Week 15.
In addition to receiving a run defense score of 81.5 while playing 29 snaps in the Lions’ defeat, Pro Football Focus reports that his effort against the Bills gave him his highest overall grade of 70.4. Long recorded seven tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a fumble recovery during his time with Detroit. The club is moving closer to having certain players return from injury, according to Long’s announcement. Given that he is already within his 21-day activation window, Jalen Reeves-Maybin may be among those making a comeback shortly. In Week 17, the San Francisco 49ers and the Lions play “Monday Night Football” at Levi’s Stadium.
