How Alex Bregman could fit into Yankees' 2025 plans – Hartford Courant

On Saturday afternoon, the New York Yankees kept improving as a team. After losing Juan Soto to free agency, the Yankees made big trades for Devin Williams and Cody Bellinger after signing Max Fried. Paul Goldschmidt, a free agent first baseman, reached an agreement with the Yankees on Saturday. Goldschmidt is reportedly signing a one-year, $12.5 million contract with the Yankees. This follows the Houston Astros’ signing of Christian Walker, a free agent and another Yankees longstanding target.

At first base, general manager Brian Cashman chose a less expensive alternative. The Yankees chose not to sign Pete Alonso, another slugger on the market. The Yankees can spend more money at third base, where they sorely need an improvement, by keeping first base cheap. Who is the finest choice available? Alex Bregman, veteran third baseman with the Astros. Though there are a few other clubs that make the race competitive, Bregman has long been associated with the Yankees this winter. The Astros were formerly thought to be the favorites, but it appears like Houston is no longer in the running for Bregman after signing Walker.

The personal reason behind Alex Bregman's baseball classic

The veteran Astro would significantly fill the Yankees’ largest roster void. Jazz Chisholm Jr. would slide to second base and Bregman would take his place at third base. As a result, Bregman is a significant improvement over former Yankee Gleyber Torres, and Chisholm can play his natural position.

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Bregman will sign a contract of $170 million, which is still within New York’s budget after Goldschmidt’s signing. At this point, New York is the clear favorite for Bregman.
