HEARTBREAKING: The iconic king of progressive rock was arrested for raping a teenager in the early hours of the day.
According to the accuser’s attorney in the most recent verbal spat between the parties in the federal docket, billionaire Jay-Z is a bully who has “shrilly maintained an entitlement to different rules and faster procedures” against Jane Doe, who alleges that the rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs and an unidentified female celebrity raped her in 2000 when she was 13 years old.
Tony Buzbee’s letter to Judge Analisa Torrie on Friday concludes the latest phase of a lawsuit that is beginning to resemble the MCU of lawsuits, in which both parties are constantly teasing or announcing what will happen next. Combs has become essentially a sideshow to the main action of the plaintiff’s lawyer, who is based in Houston. The rapper Shawn Carter and Jay-Z’s longtime legal sideman Alex Spiro are constantly disparaging each other, promising to be very street and very Marine.
In the three-page letter sent today to Judge Torres in New York, Buzbee claims that the hip-hop icon and Quinn Emanuel partner’s strategy has been to “blur the facts and rush a decision in each instance.” However, there are two types of advocacy: aggressive advocacy and poor faith. Mr. Carter’s recent actions go over that boundary, as does his overt threat to report Plaintiff’s lawyers for disciplinary action. Buzbee, who is handling the majority of the dozens of civil sexual assault cases against the imprisoned Combs, mocks Jay-Z and the acerbic Spiro for being “histrionic,” claiming that “outside of the courtroom, Mr. Carter has employed tactics of intimidation and harassment even more extreme, tortious, and quite possibly illegal.”
Buzbee continues in the letter to assert that the defendant in ’99 Problems’ “twists Plaintiff’s words” regarding parts of her memory of the night after the MTV VMAs 24 years ago in an interview with NBC News last week: “Carter’s threat of a ‘immediate’ sanctions motion on the first whisper of factual uncertainty is just one more instance of bullying, intended to have a chilling effect on Plaintiff, Plaintif’s counsel, and any potential plaintiffs watching these proceedings.”
Combs is waiting for his May 2025 trial on charges of sex trafficking and other offenses at Brooklyn’s harsh Metropolitan Detention Center, where extradited hospital CEO shooter Luigi Mangione is currently housed, following his arrest on September 16 and not-guilty plea. The case, which was first filed on October 20, reached a completely new level on December 8. In response to a lawsuit filed against Buzbee in a Los Angeles Superior Court by an anonymous “celebrity and public figure who resides in Los Angeles” represented by Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, that amended complaint named Jay-Z/Shawn Carter as the alleged male “Celebrity A,” a celebrity who allegedly took part in the plaintiff’s repeated rapes while she was still a minor.
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!” Carter, who is typically media shy, replied almost immediately with a handwritten statement that was shared on the social media accounts of Roc Nation, which was co-founded by Jay-Z.
