ESPN: A former NL MVP signs a one-year contract with the Yankees.
In order to strengthen their roster in preparation for the 2025 MLB season, the New York Yankees are still adding players this offseason.
Paul Goldschmidt, the former NL MVP, and the Yankees reached a $12.5 million one-year agreement on Saturday. The agreement was made the day after Christian Walker signed a three-year contract with the Houston Astros. The Bronx Bombers jumped on Goldschmidt after Walker signed elsewhere because the Yankees were also interested in him.
The 37-year-old Goldschmidt is nearing the conclusion of his career and seems to be slowing down in 2024. He struck the ball.245 with the lowest career score.716 OPS. For the St. Louis Cardinals, he recorded 33 doubles, 22 home runs, and 11 stolen bases.
Not too long ago, Goldschmidt had one of his greatest seasons ever. He batted.317 with a.981 OPS in 2022. He drove in 115 runs and hit 35 home runs and 41 doubles. That season, Goldschmidt was named the NL MVP.
Goldschmidt has earned four Gold Gloves, five Silver Slugger trophies, and seven All-Star selections over his illustrious career.
He will displace Ben Rice out of first base and take Anthony Rizzo’s place with the Yankees.
Since losing Juan Soto in free agency, the Yankees have already signed Devin Williams, Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, and Goldschmidt.
