CBS Sports: Philadelphia Eagles add Lons’ star as a perfect backup quarterback to help in the playoffs.
The ideal backup quarterback choices have just become available if the Philadelphia Eagles want to add some security before the NFL postseason.
The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to make another long playoff run as the 2024 NFL postseason draws closer.
The Eagles have established themselves as serious Super Bowl candidates with a 12-2 record going into Week 16. Nick Sirianni, the team’s head coach, has his players playing well on both sides of the ball. It remains to be seen if they can continue to play at this level into the playoffs.
In the NFL, a team’s perspective may alter drastically, even if things seem optimistic right now. Because injuries are inevitable in the game, it’s critical to have dependable depth at this time of year, particularly at quarterback.
The ideal backup option just became available if the Eagles are wanting to add another seasoned arm to their roster.
Teddy Bridgewater is a free agent quarterback the Eagles should target.
In an interview with Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero on Tuesday’s episode of NFL Network’s “Insiders,” veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater stated his intention to come out of retirement and rejoin the NFL this season.
“We’ll see how (the) next two weeks or week and a half unfolds. Bridgewater remarked, “I might be signing with a team or something.” “Then, in February, going back to coaching high school football. So, we’ll see.
Bridgewater started his coaching career at Miami Northwestern High School, his alma school, in February. In the Division 3A Florida High School Athletic Association Championship game on Saturday, the 32-year-old guided the Bulls to a 12-2 record, which included a 41-0 victory over William M. Raines High School.
Bridgewater may be a target for the Eagles given that his high school coaching career is on hold.
Hurts’ abilities on the field are undeniable, but Philadelphia’s quarterbacking alternatives after him are, to put it mildly, questionable. The main backup quarterback at the moment is Kenny Pickett, a former 2022 first-round pick who hasn’t exactly wowed in his early NFL career, recording just 4,479 passing yards and 13 touchdowns with as many interceptions in 24 starts.
The third-string quarterback, Tanner McKee, too lacks confidence. The Eagles don’t want to put the 24-year-old quarterback in a postseason scenario for which he isn’t ready. He hasn’t made an NFL start yet.
Bridgewater, meanwhile, would contribute more experience to the Eagles’ quarterback room than McKee and Pickett put together. With 65 starts since 2014, the former Louisville product has a 33-32 record, completing 66.4% of throws for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, and a 90.5 passer rating.
Bridgewater may get a lot of interest from teams across the league at this point in the season when injuries are beginning to seriously affect clubs. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman may want to contact the veteran quarterback’s agency as soon as possible if that is the case.
