CBS Sports: Due to an injury, the Cowboys’ favorite cornerback will miss the remainder of the season.
According to two individuals familiar with the decision who spoke on condition of anonymity, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs will have season-ending surgery on his left knee to address a problem that was likely to hold him out for the third time in four games.
According to the sources, this is the same knee that needed surgery for an ACL tear last season, but the ligament is still intact.
Diggs was declared out of Sunday’s game against Carolina (3–10), and the Cowboys (5-8) officially announced that the 2021 All-Pro will not be traveling.
Diggs, 26, had already missed two games this season because of knee and groin problems before making a comeback on Monday night when the Cowboys lost to Cincinnati 27–20. Earlier this year, he also struggled with foot and ankle issues. Diggs missed the last 15 games of the season due to an ACL tear that occurred during practice last year.
Diggs will join seven-time All-Pro guard Zack Martin (ankle) and quarterback Dak Prescott (torn hamstring) as the third anticipated Dallas starter to undergo season-ending surgery.
In the game against the Bengals, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who started in his second season, also sustained a season-ending injury to his right knee.
After missing his whole rookie season due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee, Overshown may miss the entire 2025 season owing to an injury to his right knee. On Saturday, he was put on injured reserve.
Micah Parsons, a two-time All-Pro pass rusher, missed four games earlier in the season due to a high ankle sprain, while defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence is also expected to miss the last 13 games due to a foot issue.
DaRon Bland, a cornerback who established an NFL record with five interception returns for touchdowns and was selected a 2023 All-Pro, missed the first ten games of the season because of a stress fracture in his foot.
Diggs and Bland played together just once this season, in the Bengals’ defeat.
Center Dakoda Shepley and cornerback Andrew Booth were promoted off the practice squad.
