Kyle Tucker, another elite outfield player, was passed over by the New York Yankees on Friday.

Since losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets, the team’s crosstown rival, last week, the Yankees have been connected to the Houston Astros slugger. However, the Chicago Cubs outbid the Yankees and acquired Tucker in a trade on Friday, making the Yankees officially 0/2.

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Yankees “never got especially close” to a deal with the Astros, despite reports that they had been serious bidders of Tucker before to the Cubs trade.

According to reports, Houston sought to acquire Tucker in exchange for pitcher Luis Gil and prospect George Lombard Jr. The Yankees, who see Gil as a possible rotation ace, laughed at the notion, according to Heyman.

Gil had a strong 3.50 ERA and 171 strikeouts in 29 starts last season, earning him the AL Rookie of the Year award. The 26-year-old, however, had a 4.20 ERA in his final 10 starts and fared worse in the second half of the season.

Lombard is the Yankees’ top-ranked infielder in their farm system and their third-ranked prospect. The teenager struck.In the lower leagues past season, he hit 231 with 5 home runs and 45 RBIs.

The Yankees acquired an All-Star pitcher on the trade market this summer, but the Bronx Bombers have not yet acquired a well-known outfield player.
