Trading Stefon Diggs was the right decision for Bills: 3 reasons why

In April, the Buffalo Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, shocking the NFL community.

The Bills parted ways with quarterback Josh Allen’s top wide receiver, costing them nearly $31 million in dead money and a $4 million salary hit. A 2024 sixth-round selection and a 2025 fifth-round pick were also handed to Houston by Buffalo. The Bills were given a 2025 second-round pick in return.

A month before to the wide receiver’s departure, the Bills had suddenly cut a number of important veterans in order to save money. The Bills took a year to start again, seemingly in rebuilding mode due to the high turnover.

But the Bills went on to win the AFC East for the seventh time in a row. With a 10-3 record going into Week 15, Buffalo is in second place in the AFC, and Allen deserves a lot of praise for his valiant efforts. Leading the MVP race, the 28-year-old quarterback is having one of his greatest seasons to date.

Unfortunately, after just eight games with the Texans, Diggs had an injury that ended his season. The 31-year-old has been quiet since tearing his ACL on a non-contact play during Houston’s 23–20 victory against the Indianapolis Colts.

On Friday, December 13, he tweeted, “Speaking less.. praying more.” One admirer responded, “How are you healing? Do you think Josh will win MVP this year?

Diggs described his improvement as “on schedule.” The veteran remarked that Allen “should shorty balling fr” if he were to win MVP.

Tension between the two-time All-Pro and the Bills had been for years before Diggs left. Diggs answered a fan’s tweet on March 30 that said, “Yes, Josh benefits from having a great receiver. No, he is not necessary for his success. Diggs was moved the next day after responding, “You sure?”
