CBS Sports: Ravens suspend favorite WR after refusing to play against the Eagles.
Coach John Harbaugh stated after the game that he wasn’t ready to comment on Johnson, and Harbaugh continued to hold off on commenting when he spoke to reporters on Monday. The Baltimore Ravens have suspended receiver Diontae Johnson for their upcoming game because he refused to enter their recent game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson did not play in Sunday’s loss to the Eagles despite receiver Rashod Bateman experiencing knee soreness.
“We have made the difficult decision to suspend Diontae Johnson for our upcoming game against the New York Giants for conduct detrimental to the team,” general manager Eric DeCosta said in a statement on Wednesday. Diontae’s refusal to play in our game against the Philadelphia Eagles is the reason for his suspension. We won’t be making any further remarks on this topic in the future.”
Before playing the Giants on December 15, the Ravens have this week off. Johnson’s agent received a mail asking for comment.
In an October deal with the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore acquired Johnson, who is in the last season of his contract, but the 28-year-old wide receiver has only caught one ball in four Ravens games.
