CBS sports: Detroit Lions star gives the Green Bay Packers a crucial secret, Before Thursday’s match
The Green Bay Packers’ matchup against the Detroit Lions has massive stakes in the NFC North battle, with the Packers riding the momentum from a blowout win over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night and the Lions fighting to get and stay healthy on defense.
With so much at stake in a match between two division rivals, any bit of an edge in any crucial area may make the difference.
Unfortunately for the Lions, it’s possible that running back Jahmyr Gibbs unintentionally gave the Packers a preview of Detroit’s Thursday night strategy.
On social media, Gibbs seems to have shared a screen grab of a large section of the Lions’ playbook that was displayed on a whiteboard in the team’s building.
When Lions head coach Dan Campbell learned about the position during a recent news conference, he was not happy about it.
“Who is that?” Campbell inquired. “Oh, I was unaware of it. I was unaware of that. Alright, I’ll have to see about that. I was unaware of that. Yes, I would prefer that our belongings not be seen. Thank you.
Outside of the Meijer Performance Center, nobody knows if those plays are a part of the Lions’ Thursday night schedule. The Packers have a significant edge since the language was made public, but the Lions coaching staff and the rest of the squad may also suffer greatly as a result.
The coaching staff now has to come up with new nomenclature if Campbell and the Lions intend to use any of those plays. This means devoting time to a relatively routine activity during an already shortened week before Thursday night’s game.
The Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur may just distribute the play sheet to his squad to keep them alert for any new terms. They could also ask coaching staff members to try to figure out the code phrases for certain players and ideas.
On Thursday night, a high-stakes chess match suddenly become a little more intriguing.
