ESPN: “Curiousity” set in as Bills replace favorite QB Josh Allen.
A move that has some insiders baffled is the Buffalo Bills’ decision to bring in more quarterbacks.
In preparation for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, the team declared that veteran Mike White had been promoted from the practice squad. Since neither backup Mitch Trubisky nor starter Josh Allen had been mentioned on the injury report, it was unclear why White had been promoted.
In a post on X, WKBW reporter Matt Bove said, “Mike White elevation is curious.”
Bove hinted that White’s addition to the active list could have been motivated by something else.
The Bills Honor the Veteran QB
White will have the opportunity to don a uniform for Sunday’s crucial game against the 49ers after playing with the practice squad for the first 11 games of the season. According to Bove, the Bills could have offered White money in exchange for accepting a seat on the practice squad.
“I think White is on the active roster either as a 1) thank you for his efforts or 2) because it was previously agreed upon in the summer that he would play a specific number of games in exchange for the extra money,” Bove posted on X.
Due to a new NFL regulation that permits players to elevate an emergency signal-caller from their practice squad, White will get the opportunity to play as the backup quarterback for Sunday’s game.
As a player with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets, White has been a familiar face to Bills supporters. White was able to sign with the Bills thanks to some personal outreach after the Dolphins dropped him late this summer.
In August, White told reporters, “I got released in Miami and drove up to Tampa where I lived.” Immediately after (Brandon) Beane phoned my agent, Josh texted me with two eye emojis and other positive messages. I am aware that it happened really quickly.
Josh Allen is recovering and preparing for severe weather.
This season, Allen has experienced a number of setbacks and injuries, including a left hand injury that has kept him wearing a protective glove for the most of the season. Allen told reporters that he was excited for Sunday’s game against the 49ers and that he had an opportunity to relax during the team’s bye week, during which he also proposed to girlfriend Hailee Steinfeld.
Allen said that he was prepared for the possibly severe weather, as a significant storm system is sweeping through the suburbs south of Buffalo and is expected to drop feet of snow on Orchard Park, the Bills’ home field.
With many snow games in recent years, including a playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last year that had to be postponed by a day so the area could recover from a huge blizzard, Allen is accustomed to playing in frigid and untidy circumstances.
Allen stated, “That’s just kind of the nature of the beast in Buffalo.” “You must be able to perform in situations like this.”
With a victory, the Bills could win the AFC East for the seventh time in a row.
