CBS Sports: T.J. Watt explains why he cannot apologise to Myles Garrett.
T.J. Watt dismissed his comments and is concentrating on football after Cleveland Browns star edge rusher Myles Garrett requested an apology from his Pittsburgh Steelers opponent prior to their game last Thursday.
Watt has chosen to clarify the post that Garrett took offense at after reporters questioned him about the long-running rivalry between the two that resulted in the latter earning Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
The Steelers star did not attend last year’s NFL Honors, when Watt memorably tweeted a semi-ambiguous spoiler just before the award was revealed. Just tweeting, Watt said, “Nothing I’m not used to.”
Garrett mentioned it nine months later.
“No, he didn’t say nothing to me,” Garrett responded to the tweet prior to Week 12’s Steelers vs. Browns game. “When I meet him, he must apologize to me.
Watt defined the purpose of his post once more on Friday, but he did not provide Garrett with the apology he sought.
Watt stated, “We were more upset with the voting and the way that all happened.” “Neither Myles Garrett as a person nor as a player is affected in any way. He’s a terrific player, in my opinion. The voting process and the requirements to obtain those items are more important. I’m not concentrating on that this year.
T.J. is obviously more concerned with his football team, which is still leading the difficult AFC North despite the Browns’ defeat, than with honors or recognition at the moment.
The Wisconsin native, however, made it apparent that even during the previous offseason, when he was preoccupied with accolades, he was not disparaging Garrett but rather the awards system as a whole.
