CBS Sports: Bills vs. 49ers game rescheduled
According to estimates, Buffalo may receive up to eight inches of snow on the eve of the Bills’ Sunday night game against the San Francisco 49ers.
A winter storm watch is in effect for the Bills’ home game against the Niners, with severe winds and a lot of snow expected in Western New York over the next several days.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has warned there will be ‘hazardous conditions’; this includes wind chill and probable reduced visibility, with snow on the roadways likely to hinder transport.
Given a recent report from Buffalo television station WIVB-TV, it is uncertain if the Bills and Niners will still be allowed to play each other at Highmark Stadium on Sunday.
In the 24 hours before kickoff, Buffalo is predicted to receive four to eight inches of snowfall, according to meteorologist Todd Santos.
Santos went on to say that Sunday’s game in Orchard Park is also probably going to see some light snow.
But even eight inches of snow won’t persuade Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Bills, to postpone the game.
‘I’ve always been shocked since living here that you can have a foot, two feet, three feet, seven feet [of snow], and the roads get cleaned in some magical fashion,’ McDermott remarked in response to the concerning prediction at a news conference held for the game.
“So, congratulations to everyone who is working or plans to work as we enter the snowy days, weeks, and months here.”
The Bills’ 2023 season was hampered by heavy snow. After New York Governor Kathy Hochul proclaimed a state of emergency due to a snowstorm, the team’s AFC Wild Card postseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was rescheduled from a Sunday afternoon in January to a Monday.
After the initial delay, shovel teams labored to clean the stadium’s seats, walkways, and tunnels as snow fell at a pace of more than two inches (5 cm) per hour. They even worked overnight to assist the game get the all-clear on Monday.
