Yankees raise initial offer to Juan Soto in free agency statement - nj.com

Evan Roberts, host of WFAN, is certain that the Mets are being used.

Roberts said on Tuesday that, in spite of the many leaks about Juan Soto’s talks with other teams, he thinks the player’s ultimate objective is to re-sign with the Yankees. Roberts thinks the purpose of these leaks is to extract as much money as possible from the Yankees.

“I think the Mets are being used, and that scares me,” Roberts stated, according to SNY. “I believe that all of this information is being leaked by Scott Boras. Additionally, I believe Scott Boras has a motive for disclosing information.

New York Yankees Increase Initial Offer to Juan Soto in Free Agency

“I hope I’m mistaken, but I think I’m right. I believe Juan Soto has expressed his desire to remain with the New York Yankees to Scott Boras. That’s what I’m reading about this.

“Get me the most money, Scott,” he says, expressing his desire to remain with the Yankees. Furthermore, I believe that portraying the Mets in this manner is an attempt to exert pressure on Hal Steinbrenner.

According to other reports, such as one from Carlos Baerga, a former Mets shortstop who is now an MLB news breaker, Cohen made Soto an offer of $660 million. Michael Kay, a Yankees commentator, also stated that Cohen would surpass the top bid by $50 million.

Juan Soto rumors: Mets viewed as 'clear-cut favorite' to sign 26-year-old superstar | amNewYork

According to an official who recently spoke to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Mets are the “clear-cut favorite” to sign Soto. However, are they actually?

Not in Roberts’ opinion. However, he still believes the Mets have a shot.

“The good thing is,” Robers stated, “I’m confident there’s a number where Scott and Juan will say, ‘Okay, we gave you every shot in the world,’ if Hal doesn’t reach it and Steve does. We’re leaving.
