CBS Sports: Raiders Rejected by Free Agent QB

Gardner Minshew shattered his collarbone and will miss the remainder of the season, which means the Las Vegas Raiders are without a quarterback. However, given that a well-known quarterback had recently entered the market, the injury’s timing seemed intriguing.

Daniel Jones, the former starting quarterback for the New York Giants, is free to sign anywhere after clearing waivers on Monday. The Raiders could be the simplest way for him to land another starting position, but he doesn’t seem to be really interested in that.

Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports claims that although Las Vegas expressed interest in signing Jones, he has “ruled them out.” According to Schultz, the quarterback would rather join a team that is still in the running for the playoffs. The Raiders have virtually little chance of qualifying for the playoffs with a 2-9 record.

Nevertheless, Las Vegas still has a difficult time accepting this. Instead of playing for the Raiders, Jones would want to be a backup for a team like the Baltimore Ravens. Even though it won’t work out this time, Jones could give Las Vegas another go in the offseason. They may select an experienced quarterback to start in the event that the rookie isn’t ready by Week 1 even if they select a quarterback in the first round.

Week 13 is when Aidan O’Connell is most likely to start.
The Raiders are fortunate to have one quarterback return from injury as a result of the Minshew announcement. Since breaking his thumb in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Rams, Aidan O’Connell has been placed on Injured Reserve.

He was the starting quarterback when he was wounded, and if he hadn’t been hurt, he probably would have been playing over Minshew. The Raiders aren’t giving O’Connell enough time to go back to his best after he returned to practice this week. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the organization intends to start O’Connell against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 13.

The Raiders don’t have many options, but it’s a huge ask to have O’Connell play against the reigning Super Bowl champs on a short week after his injury. During his brief appearance, Desmond Ridder has not performed well, and it is obvious that head coach Antonio Pierce does not trust him. Unless he has another injury, O’Connell is probably going to start the remainder of the season.
