CBS Sports: Cowboys CeeDee Lamb Send a Nasty “Thank You” Note to Commanders.
The Washington Commanders had to cope with both a loss and disdain following a historic loss to the Dallas Cowboys at Northwest Stadium. Given that Dallas was a 10.5-point underdog, it was the largest upset in the NFL this season. A blocked punt, two botched extra points, and two kickoff returns to score made this the first game in league history.
With 41 points, a 99-yard kickoff return, an 86-yard touchdown throw, a two-point conversion, a failed extra point, an onside kick recovered for a score, and Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary being intercepted to ultimately finish it, the final eight minutes were an incredible football game in and of itself. With :21 seconds remaining, Washington had the opportunity to equalize the score and even force overtime in a game that it had repeatedly looked destined to lose. However, the Fair Tale ended when Terry McLaurin’s incredible 86-yard catch-and-run score put the Commanders within 27-26.
Austin Seibert, the kicker, hooked the extra point wide left after a poor snap. Seibert, who hadn’t missed a PAT this season but was recovering from a two-game absence due to a hip injury, missed his second PAT of the game. After the game, Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb chose to offer praise to the man who missed the most important kick out of all the game’s many heroes.
“Congratulations to Austin. Lamb remarked of his former Oklahoma Sooners teammate, “He went to OU with me.” “He gave us one.” After the game, a disheartened Seibert stated, “I just want to play better for my teammates.” I’m responsible for it. The Commanders have returned to Earth following an outstanding 5-2 start. They defeated the two-win New York Giants by five points after escaping the Chicago Bears on Daniels’ Hail Mary, but they have now dropped three straight games. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, Washington will play the Tennessee Titans.
