CBS Sports: After the Broncos win, Sean Payton gives a blunt message about the Raiders.
After defeating the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 12, Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos are 7-5 on the season, one victory shy of their 2023 total.
They may have their first season with ten or more wins since 2015. Las Vegas led 13–9 at the half, but the Broncos scored 20–6 points after the half. Payton gave the Raiders credit for their tenacity after the game.
Payton’s message also served as a sobering reminder that there are no moral triumphs.
“Congratulations, Vegas. On November 24, Payton said reporters, “They came out and had some fire about them.” However, they were defeated.
With the defeat, the Vegs’ season record fell to 2-9.
Gardner Minshew, their starting quarterback, will finish the season with a broken collarbone. In the fourth quarter, Broncos linebacker Cody Barton and edge rusher Jonathan Cooper reached the Raiders quarterback.
Payton remarked, “Look, Gardner is tough when he gets out of the pocket.” “We want to cage rush him,” I yell at [Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph] and each defensive coach if he escapes the pocket. When we could have kept him there, but turnovers occurred. And in the majority of games, that will make the difference.
“I believed we won the run game. They provide you with some eye delight and motion effects. A few relatives with covering duties were overlooked. Those are excellent players: 19 [DJ Turner], 89 [Brock Bowers], and 98 [Maxx Crosby]. However, we didn’t hear from them very often.
Together, Bowers and Turner caught six passes for 43 yards on 14 targets. Crosby recorded one quarterback hit and five tackles, three of which were for a loss.
Tre Tucker (7-82-0) and Jakobi Meyers (10-121-0) both made significant contributions for the Raiders.
Desmond Ridder, a former Atlanta Falcons third-round pick who was sacked and fumbled on his second play from scrimmage, was the Raiders’ replacement for Minshew. The Broncos have now won four of their past six games, including back-to-back victories.
