The Dallas Cowboys might be getting ready to make a big offer to Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, according to a SI.com rumor. According to rumors, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been extremely happy with Johnson’s efforts, especially after seeing the Cowboys lose 47-9 to the Lions earlier in the season.

According to those familiar with the matter, Jones is so impressed by Johnson’s offensive strategies that, should he want to leave Detroit, he is prepared to pay him among the NFL’s wealthiest head coaches. The report implies that Jones would be prepared to comply with Johnson’s requests in order to land him as the Cowboys’ next head coach, albeit this is still very much a rumor.

“The Lions’ offensive explosion at AT&T Stadium earlier this year, when Detroit won 47-9, greatly impressed Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, according to league sources,” SI writes. “Sources say the 82-year-old owner is willing to meet Johnson’s demands and make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NFL, even though McCarthy was receiving a middle-of-the-pack salary.”

Ben Johnson is staying in Detroit

Although it’s still uncertain if Johnson will continue in Detroit, rumors that Dallas is interested are becoming more widespread. Fans will have to wait and see how this possible coaching change plays out for the time being. Let’s hope (and pray) that Johnson stays in Detroit because he truly loves the city.
