ESPN: According to reports, the Yankees have signed the experienced utility player from the Red Sox, their most bitter rival, in a huge deal.
Pablo Reyes has been playing with the Boston Red Sox for the past few seasons.
Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports that the veteran utility player has now agreed to a minor league contract with the New York Yankees, the Red Sox’s fiercest rival.
After the Red Sox acquired the 31-year-old Dominican Republic native for monetary considerations, Reyes made one appearance as a pinch runner in the New York Mets’ final game on September 1.
Reyes hit.183 with zero home runs, five RBIs, and one stolen base in 22 MLB games with the Red Sox and Mets last season. Between the two clubs, he hit.300 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 15 stolen bases, and an OPS of.889 in 68 Triple-A games.
Reyes has hit.248 with eight home runs, 54 RBI, 72 runs, and 13 stolen bases since joining the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018 for his Major League Baseball debut.
Given that first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Gleyber Torres will be entering free agency following the World Series, Reyes, who has played in 233 major league games, may get playing time with the Yankees in the upcoming season.
