CBS Sports: Steelers Favorite Star fined $16,683 for Misconduct Against Commanders player.
During the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 28-27 victory, wide receiver George Pickens was fined $16,683 for using excessive force when he grabbed a Commanders player’s facemask.
In order to gain yards and create separation, Pickens clutches the cornerback’s facemask as players close in on him during the play after he catches a fast screen out to him. On the field, that was not referred to as a penalty, but Pickens receiving a punishment is not unusual.
This season’s fines against Pickens are not the first. When he pulled Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis down by his facemask during the game against the Dallas Cowboys, he was penalized.
Pickens has a reputation for being physically aggressive during games, and this was evident in the Commanders game. In addition to his facemask play, Pickens also engaged in a full-on wrestling match with slot cornerback Mike Sainristil on another play after the Commanders’ safety, Jeremy Chinn, took the ball off.
