Ezekiel Turner

Sam LaPorta (shoulder) will miss this game due to an AC joint sprain sustained in the victory over the Houston Texans, and even though Malcolm Rodriguez is expected to return from his two-game absence, the Detroit Lions needed more linebacker depth for Week 11; they signed linebacker Ezekiel Turner from the practice squad and elevated former fifth-round pick James Mitchell in an attempt to add depth to their linebacker and tight end depth.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck) is on injured reserve, and Ben Niemann (ankle) is doubtful. Last week was Turner’s first action of the year, and he played a significant role on special teams. With 26 snaps in that area, he was tied for the team lead.

Furthermore, no one should be surprised by Mitchell’s inclusion.

LaPorta is not playing, and the depth chart shows an increase for Shane Zylstra and Brock Wright. Parker Hesse was recently replaced by Zylstra on the roster and rotation. For this week’s game, Zylstra TE2 should be backed by Wright.

However, given his elevation, it will probably be Mitchell’s first action of the season. Over the past two seasons, he has made 29 appearances and recorded 13 receptions for 141 yards and one score. With the same coaching staff, Mitchell has participated in 277 special teams plays and 340 offensive snaps.

LaPorta and his exceptional pass-catching skills will be missed by the Lions when they play the Jacksonville Jaguars at Ford Field. However, they feel at ease with the level of experience and familiarity required for the role.
