A historic rivalry revived.

On Friday, the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees will resume, marking the return of baseball’s most famous matchup. Each club advanced to the World Series after the Dodgers won the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets and the Yankees won the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians.

With many of the biggest personalities and best players competing for both teams, this World Series promises to be as star-studded as it has ever been. The two players who will probably win MVP this season—Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani—will be in the series. Together, Judge and Ohtani have already won three American League MVP titles in their careers.

Max Muncy of the Dodgers is excited about the game between the two storied teams.

As a fan, how can you not be thrilled about seeing the top names in the game perform on the grandest stage?

Eleven World Series games between the Dodgers and Yankees have already been played, although not since 1981. The title rivalry between the Dodgers and Yankees, two of the best teams in baseball history, will be reignited during this World Series.

Having beaten the Dodgers in eight of their eleven World Series meetings, the Yankees have an all-time advantage over them. The Dodgers’ 1981 triumph against the Yankees is their most recent win in the rivalry. of the World Series of 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1977, and 1978, the Yankees triumphed over the Dodgers. In the World Series in 1955, 1963, and 1981, the Dodgers triumphed over the Yankees.

This season, the Dodgers and Yankees have previously met in June, with the Dodgers emerging victorious in that series 2-1. Naturally, a lot has changed since then. Gavin Stone and Tyler Glasnow, two of the Dodgers pitchers from that series, are out of the playoff mix due to injuries, and the team has since added Michael Kopech, Jack Flaherty, and Tommy Edman. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is one notable addition made by the Yankees.
